Road Traffic

Junction 3D: who goes first? (learning card)

Like a driving-theory learning card: the camera hovers high behind “your” blue car. Coloured arrows show where everyone wants to go. In four scenarios, the demo plays out step by step who may go first.

Key points

1. Right before left — no signs (only 3.06 “junction with right-before-left”): whoever comes from the right goes first. Order A → you → B.
2. Give way — sign 3.02 and give-way line: “you” give way to EVERYONE on the main road, including the car from the left.
3. Left turn — get in lane, pull forward towards the centre, let oncoming traffic (bikes too) pass, then turn without cutting the corner.
4. Zebra crossing — anyone who clearly wants to cross has priority: stop. Oncoming traffic stops too.

Rule of thumb

Signs first, then right before left. Drivers turning left wait for oncoming traffic, and pedestrians go first at the zebra crossing.

Legal basis (as of 14 Oct 2026)

Art. 36 para. 2 SVG (SR 741.01) – right before left unless signs or markings indicate otherwise.
Art. 36 para. 3 SVG – drivers turning left give way to oncoming traffic.
Art. 33 para. 2 SVG and Art. 6 para. 1 VRV (SR 741.11) – priority for pedestrians at uncontrolled zebra crossings.
Art. 13 paras. 1 and 4 VRV – get in lane early; do not cut the corner when turning left.
Art. 14 para. 1 VRV – whoever has to give way slows down in time and waits before the junction.

Notes

Signs: 3.02 “give way”, 3.03 “main road”, 3.06 “junction with right-before-left”, 4.11 “zebra crossing” – official designs (public domain, Art. 5 URG; source Wikimedia Commons). In reality they stand further before the junction; here they are enlarged.
Controls: scenario buttons, ⏮/⏭ jump between steps, “Order” shows the numbers, rotate and zoom with the mouse, ⟲ back to the learning-card view.
